Waxing removes the hair from the root, so yes, there's a level of sensation as nerves surround that hair root. But everyone is different and the experience varies from person to person. Avoid waxing a few days before or after your period, as your skin is more sensitive at this time. The muscles around the hair contract when it is cold, so wax in a warm room where those muscles are relaxed and comfortable which will minimise any discomfort. If you can pull a plaster off your skin, you'll be just fine with waxing!
In normal conditions, rubbing the strips between your hands for 20 - 30 seconds should warm them adequately. In a particularly cold snap, you may need to warm them a little longer. When adequately warm, the wax strips will separate easily without any "cracking" sound.
Waxing works best on clean, dry skin that is free of moisture, sweat or natural body oils. We don't suggestion moisturising the skin before a wax. If you're in a humid environment, apply a light layer of talc to the skin before waxing to absorb any excess moisture.
Mandy's strips are pre-cut to suit hair removal from different body parts - larger strips for leg areas and small strips for the face. Alternately, you can purchase large wax strips and cut them to size to your preference.
Mandy's produce two types of wax strips. Our Original strips have a transparent crystal strip with traditional wax which is very effective on thicker, coarser, denser hair. Our Soft-Feel wax strips have a fabric like strip and a gel wax formulation - these are better suited to finer, sparser hair.
The strips must be warm enough to grip on to the hairs, but if overheated, they will adhere to skin rather than hair, and not be as effective. The skin should be clean, dry and in good condition - if it is too dry and scaly, or sticky and greasy, the strips won't remove the hair successfully. The strips can be reused several times, depending on the density of hair - once they lose their "stickiness" or "tackiness", they will no longer be effective
A little redness is perfectly normal and should subside after a few hours. Be sure than when waxing, you remove the strip close to the skin - "along" the length of the skin, rather than "up" away from the skin. Also remember to hold the skin taut in the removal process, this will reduce irritation, sensitivity and the chance of any bruising.
The easiest way to remove the residue is by using a little of your everyday moisturiser or body lotion.
